Origin of Slavery

The origin of slavery is unknown, but it is believed it can be dated back as far as biblical times.
When you think of slavery the first thing that comes to mind is the American slave trade where the Americans took men and women from Africa and brought them to America, but in fact slavery began a long time before that inside of Africa where men and women were used for hard labor they were treated and paided fairly which gaurenteed them that one day they could but their rights back and live a normal life. From Africa the slave trade spread across Europe, it is believed it started in Portugal and from there it spread further afield until it reached America.
Men and women were brought from Africa across the Atlantic ocean to America were a life of hardship was sure to begin, men and women of all ages were taken, they were sold at auctions the strongest sold first and the weakest sold last. Families were sure to be separated if they hadn't already been back in Africa.
In the early 1800s slavery was made illegal in the Northern states in America, but it was never banned in the southern states and when the cotton industry came into play men and women started to be imported into the southern states to take on the role of a slave. The Southern states were against the banning of slavery as to them it was a cheap source of labor.
